    Opinions differed with regards to the type of mitral lesions to be included in this syndrome. There is now a tendency to broaden the definition, by including not only MR,4 but also iatrogenic defects created for balloon mitral valvotomy5 as well as congenital defects with an intact septum.1,6 Also, having generated little interest for a few decades, Lutembacher's syndrome is now proving an interesting combination to be treated by interventional means.7
