Do the association of cytochrome P450 interacting drugs, influence clopidogrel efficacity?

Institut Arnault Tzanck, Saint Laurent du Var, France

Article Outline

In their article “Effects of pantoprazole and esomeprazole on platelet inhibition by clopidogrel,” Siller-Matula et al state that “results were not affected by the intake of statin.”1

Whether or not statin are metabolized through the cytochrome P450 3A4 system has no impact on clopidogrel efficacity.2, 3

But may we have to fear a negative effect from the association of cytochrome interacting drugs?

Hence, can the author say more precisely if their results were also not affected by the intake of statins that are metabolized through the cytochrome P450 3A4 system, such as atorvastatin and simvastatin?
